MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY Gives HOLLYWOOD'S ROCKWALK The Middle Finger
September 2, 2003Legendary hard rockers MOTÖRHEAD were inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk Monday afternoon (September 1) during a ceremony at the Whisky A Go Go on Sunset Blvd.
According to Antimusic, the ceremony began with Los Angeles radio legend Jim Ladd presenting the group with a citation from the Mayor of Los Angeles. The mayor singled out the group for their contribution to music with their brand of "ballsy" rock. Ladd commented that it isn't everyday you hear a politician use such language.
Ladd then called up Eric Singer (KISS, ALICE COOPER, BADLANDS) to introduce and induct the members of MOTÖRHEAD into Hollywood's RockWalk. Lemmy, Mikkey Dee, and Phil Campbell approached the podium and all offered up a few words of thanks for the honor.
Then it was time for the formal induction, with each member placing their hand in two blocks of cement that will be placed on Hollywood's RockWalk. Phil and Mikkey played it by the numbers but Lemmy characteristically gave the blocks of cement the finger. So for generations to come visitors to the RockWalk will now find Phil and Mikkey's hand prints along with a big middle finger from Lemmy.
MOTÖRHEAD celebrated their Hollywood's Rockwalk induction with a special live performance Monday night at the Whisky A Go Go. Check put pictures taken at the induction: Daily Celeb, Antimusic, Wire Image, Getty Images. Photos from the Whisky performance can be viewed here (Wire Image).
